ICSC Supports International Freight Security Conference

Association Makes the Business Case for Global Security

WASHINGTON (Feb. 21, 2006) — The International Cargo Security Council (ICSC) is taking a leading role in a conference on global transportation and supply chain security, to be held March 27-28, 2006, in London, England.

ICSC Chairman Scott Smith will act as conference chair of Cargo and Container Traceability: RFID and Tracking Technologies in Freight Security and Logistics, a Lloyd's List event to be held at Jury's Hotel in London. Mr. Smith will make an introductory speech on March 27 and opening remarks on March 28.

The conference will examine RFID (radio frequency identification) and other technologies that help companies monitor and protect cargo throughout their supply chains. Presentations and case studies by industry experts will examine advanced tracking of ocean freight containers, active and passive RFID tag applications, warehouse and freight terminal management, cargo theft prevention and more. Attendees will include executives from freight forwarding and logistics firms, manufacturing and shipping companies, technology providers and other organizations.

The conference will present cargo security within the context of global security developments as well as initiatives that protect and facilitate trade.

"Cargo tracking enhances operations, risk mitigation and cash flow," said Scott Smith. "But the emerging technologies will only increase in importance as tools that complement existing measures to fight terrorism, smuggling and illegal immigration. It's an honor for me to represent ICSC at this conference, because ICSC members work every day to make the global supply chain secure."
