Planners say ICSC annual conference will be biggest ever, due to a strong speaker line-up and more international registrants
ANNAPOLIS, MD--January 21, 2005--"Heavy-weight speakers, more international visitors, new cargo-security and terrorism solutions will bring a record crowd to the 2005 ICSC conference in Orlando, topping our record attendance of 550 last year in Las Vegas."
This prediction comes from Joe M. Baker, Jr., Executive Director of the International Cargo Security Council, which in December 2004 changed its name by replacing National with International.
"After six months of planning, a Europe chapter has been established in Brussels, Belgium, and chapters are planned for other continents," according to ICSC Chairman Scott Smith, President, Alpha Cargo Technologies, Minneapolis, MN, USA.
The full-conference dates are May 13-18 at Orlando's Gaylord Palms Hotel. Principal speakers and seminars will occur on May 16-17; other dates are for receptions, and ICSC board and committee meetings.
"A wide array of experts from the private sector, the government and professional associations will address issues related to cargo-security and terrorism in general sessions, panel discussions and break-out workshops," said Conference General Chairman Robert L. Sievers, the Director of Security for Transportation and Distribution for the Estee Lauder Companies.
"The core presentations of the conference will focus for one full day on the 'R.O.I. of supply chain security’ and for one full day defining key resources needed for responding to losses involving international shipments. The Return of Investment presentations will deal with psychological R.O.I. as well as financial benefits to the bottom line,” he said.
“The second day of presentations will define what international resources are available for dealing with losses to import and export shipments and will be a very timely blend of information as the National Cargo Security Council moves on and becomes the International Cargo Security Council,” said Sievers.
Among 35 presenters are (invited) keynoters Asa Hutchinson, Under Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security; and Robert Bonner, Commissioner of Customs and Border Protection.
"The hotel's exhibit hall will present supply-chain solutions and cargo-security products and services of up to 70 companies," Baker said.
Conference and exhibitor registrations may be made on-line at www.cargosecurity.com or by calling ICSC at (410) 571-7913.
